Planning for your lighting and electrical needs, is an important part of the build process. Prior to your appointment, we will email you a handy information guide containing questions and advice to prepare you for your upcoming Lighting and Electrical Consultation.
On the day of the consultation, our Selection Centre consultant will guide you through your new home’s electrical and lighting plan, pointing out the standard inclusions.
You will then go through the plan together, room by room, tailoring the placement of additional lighting and electrical to best suit you and your lifestyle. This includes the placement of downlights, spotlights, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, lights and pendants in the kitchen, dining, entry and other feature areas of your home.
You will also look at furniture placement for power points, and think about appliances and features which require power in specific areas of your home – e.g. a power point in the broom cupboard for a rechargeable vacuum, power in the living room for electric recliners or blinds, and additional power points in the bathrooms for heated towel rails.
Once you’ve completed the inside of your home, you will move on to the exterior. At this point, you need to consider whether you need additional exterior lighting, such as floodlights or spotlights for security or highlighting. You may also like to add decorative lighting to enhance the aesthetic of your home with wall or pillar lights on the façade, and alfresco lighting to complement your entertainment space.
Provision will also be made for future electrical requirements such as a pool, spa, shed, water tank, etc. It’s much easier and less expensive to address this before you build, rather than try and retrofit it later.
Once you’ve decided on your preferences and finalised the plan, your consultant will provide you with a copy of the fully marked-up plan, including a detailed legend with colour images of all your chosen fittings, and details of all the electrical components for easy reference.
