A city of contrasts, where rich history meets a dynamic contemporary lifestyle and beautiful natural surroundings, Ipswich is its own city within the Greater Brisbane region. Boasting its own city council, unique identity, and a warm sense of community, this exciting region is recognised as one of the fastest growing in Southeast Queensland.
Currently home to almost 260,000 residents, the population of Ipswich is projected to more than double over the next 20 years¹. With a wide range of buyers drawn to the city’s accessibility, diverse local amenities, opportunities and affordable property options, the ever-increasing number of people making a move to Ipswich comes as no surprise to us at Hallmark Homes. We’ve been building here for years!
A distinctive and thriving city
This year, Ipswich proudly celebrated the 120th anniversary of its declaration as a city. Historically a location of landmark “firsts”, Ipswich is renowned for having Queensland’s first river port, steam train, and Cobb & Co coach service (transporting mail and passengers between the city and Brisbane). In fact, its prime position on the Bremmer River, prosperous limestone quarries and coal mines saw Ipswich almost named the Queensland capital in 1859.
Today, the city’s cultural and architectural past remains deeply rooted in its identity with over 6000 heritage-listed sites. Yet, Ipswich continues its progressive path toward geographical, economic and social development, establishing itself as a standout city.
From modern dining, shopping, restaurant and cinema precincts like the Nicholas Street Mall, to its craft markets, unique Street Art Trail, galleries and museums, Ipswich offers broad lifestyle appeal.
A drawcard for major annual events, Ipswich currently plays host to Australia’s biggest international country music festival “CMC Rocks QLD”, the 400 V8 Supercar Raceday, QLD Open Golf Championships, and local favourite the Ipswich Cup horse race.
Boasting excellent educational options, Ipswich schools include the esteemed Ipswich Grammar, St Edmund’s College, a choice of well-resourced state schools and two universities.
Meanwhile, established hospitals offer residents both healthcare and employment opportunities. The city’s commitment to supporting individual local businesses and promoting further growth has led to the creation of countless funding programs and initiatives.
